Monday morning, Mr. Biodun didn't greet her.
By afternoon, Temi noticed she had been removed from the weekly strategy meeting.
Two client emails went out without copying her.
The work still came.
The visibility didn't.
Temi understood.
She didn't fight it.
She finished the essay instead.
Seventeen pages.
She read every word and removed anything that sounded like it had been written only because she was angry.
The truth didn't need help.
When she finished, she changed the title.
AWAKENED
Then she saved it.
Not published.
Not yet.
On Wednesday night, she wrote her resignation letter.
Three short paragraphs.
Her mother read it over her shoulder.
“That's all?”
“Yes.”
“You no wan tell him anything?”
“No.”
“All the things they did?”
Temi looked at the letter.
“The letter is not the place.”
Her mother nodded.
“Okay.”
The next morning, Temi printed it.
At eleven, she entered Mr. Biodun's office.
“My resignation.”
He read the letter.
Asked his questions.
Told her there was no job out there.
Temi listened.
Then she left.
